Dear neighbors,

Thank you for your partnership and support over the last four years that I’ve served on the USD 500, Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools Board of Education.  It is an honor to serve, advocate for, and work toward providing the best possible quality education for all students.  In my time on the Board, I have been elected by my peers as School Board President for three years straight.

In November 2019, you elected me because you believed in our message of quality education, safe schools, collaboration, and representation.  While we have made progress in all of these areas, opening new schools, updating many of our school facilities, providing stability at our leadership level,  and more, but there is still so much work ahead of us.

My parents emigrated to the US so my brothers and I could have a life that my parents didn’t even know existed at the time. They consistently shared with us the values of faith, family, community, and education.  My parents knew that a quality education was something that we would always have and they did everything they could to ensure that we had access to a quality education.

In that same way, I will continue to work towards quality and safe education for all students and staff, because I know just how important this means for our families. We have much more work to do, but in these four years, I believe we’ve set a foundation to keep building upon.  And I’m asking for your support, and your vote on November 7, 2023.

With your support we will continue to:

  • Work towards a quality education for all, beginning in Pre-K, increasing kindergarten readiness
  • Graduate all students with a Diploma+ by 2031
  • Work with our community to address the violence and prevent substance misuse
  • Update all of our outdated schools and facilities so that our students have state of the art facilities to learn in
  • Update our athletic facilities so that our student athletes can have state of the art facilities
  • Build an new downtown Main Branch Library

Lastly, our district continues to be one of the most diverse districts in the area and we are now nearly 60% Hispanic/Latino students, with over 60 languages and dialects spoken by all of our students and families.  I continue to be the only Latino elected on the seven member school board, and am the only Latino running for this position.  We all know how important representation in these leadership positions is, and I am asking you to help ensure that a Latino voice is present, at the table, elected onto the Board of Education, by voting for me on November 7.

Thank you again for your support. If you want to get involved in any way, please let us know.  I am excited to continue to serve you, to serve our students, to serve our community. Thank you.
